Playstreet’s role in this project was to guide Council to deliver a streetscape that was representative of place and distinctive to the area. The concept drew from the beach-side nature of Kingston and was based around the drift of sea objects at the waters edge. Curved forms of concrete with shells used in the mixes weave along the street, resting in little rock pool areas where embedded steel sea creatures and seagull feet designed by Tasmanian artist Alex Miles offer playful moments of delight. Warm sandstone paving, gravel, and a palette of coastal plants and native grasses complement street furniture designed to mimic smooth rocks and shells, creating a completely unique and memorable streetscape.
