Brighton High School

In 2020 Playstreet was engaged to undertake landscape master planning, concept and detailed design for a brand new high school campus for Brighton.

The landscape design process prioritized site responsiveness, respect for Aboriginal cultural values, and modern educational landscape principles.

Through an extensive master planning and consultation process with architects, engineers, the Tasmanian Aboriginal community members and the Tasmanian Department of Education a design was developed that turned the school buildings inward, to create a vibrant ‘Learning Street’, where students can study, relax and congregate as a school community, with integrated, observable landscape systems for stormwater, Tasmanian native plantings and connections to the broader landscape. The concept was based around the Short Finned Eel, endemic to the local river systems of the area, creating a sinuous flowing style of landscape spaces.
